The museum floor is not a static environment but a dynamic one full of change, although not always in a time-scale that visitors perceive. After an overview of the Exploratorium’s mission and educational philosophy we will look at the exhibit research and development process by following the evolution of a specific exhibit, Spinning Blackboard. By tracking its various forms over time we will explore some of the many factors both profound and mundane that affect change on the museum floor.
